To achieve these objectives, we are committed to support the local organisations, communities and industry to promote their local sailing activities.
Through our help centre we can provide a support platform and actively encourage sailing activities to be undertaken, such as:
1. Public Participation Events
- Free “Discover Sailing” / “On-Water” days with local clubs and schools.
- Sailing taster sessions for beginners, including youth, women, and underrepresented groups.
- Global synchronised regattas or coastal parades on the Day.
- By supporting organisations, sailing schools and associations
- Introducing young (and old) to the sport of sailing as well as local yacht club sailing events & more.
2. Sailing Heritage and Education
- Support for the Maritime museums around the world. Museum Open Days on 28 May.
- Exhibitions celebrating sailing history, iconic voyages and ships and the people who undertook them.
- School outreach programs and interactive educational content.
- Lectures and workshops featuring famous sailors, historians, and innovators.
3. Sustainability and Ocean Awareness
- Ocean clean-up challenges and coastal conservation activities.
- Partnering with sustainability organisations to promote eco-friendly boating practices.
- Workshops on sustainable boatbuilding, green technologies, and ocean health.
4. Digital and Media Campaigns
- Global media partnerships showcasing events, celebrity involvement.
- Promoting the Golden Sail award finalists and Hall of Fame inductee finalists.
- Social media competitions, sailing photography, and video storytelling.
- Online sailing simulators and virtual regattas to engage digital audiences.
6. Community Building Initiatives
- Launching a “28th of May Ambassadors” local program.
- Establishing a global sailing clubs network.
- Encouraging mentorship programs connecting experienced sailors with newcomers.
- By combining hands-on activities, digital outreach, industry collaboration, and a focus on sustainability,
- WSDO can become a catalyst for growing the sailing community and promoting a healthy ocean environment worldwide.
7. Creating a global Sailing Loyalty Program
- Use the SailingMiles loyalty and rewards program to reward club/association members for engaging more.
- Partners to actively promote and distrubute SailingMiles to support the creation of a sailing ecosystem. Reward with SailingMiles.
- Use the loyalty program partners to exand the community network and to attract new sailors.
- Encourage mentorship programs, training, etc. using the SailingMiles donations to help fund these activities around.
