WELCOME TO THE CRUISING WORLD
Discover Blue Water Cruising
Cruising opens the door to a unique and enriching sailing experience. Whether you’re exploring coastlines, crossing oceans, or enjoying a weekend getaway, cruising offers a flexible and fulfilling way to connect with the sea. It can be done solo, with family, or as part of a flotilla.
The cruising community is open, supportive, and ready to welcome you aboard!
Reasons to Start
Cruising brings a deep sense of freedom and exploration. It also:
- Encourages self-sufficiency and practical skills.
- Fosters a sense of peace and connection with nature.
- Builds strong bonds through shared experiences at sea.
- Offers limitless opportunities for travel, discovery, and lifelong learning.
How to Start
Getting into cruising is more accessible than many think. You can start by taking a sailing course, joining a cruising club, or crewing with experienced cruisers.
Owning a boat is not a requirement—many find opportunities through boat-sharing programs or club charters. Your local marina or sailing association is a great place to begin.
You can also register here with the World Sailing Day Organisation, and we will connect you with member organisations who support cruising.
Information and Opportunities
Cruising is supported globally by various sailing associations and cruising networks. These offer training, resources, and organised events such as group cruises and educational seminars.
Visit www.worldsailing.com for broader sailing information or contact your local cruising club for tailored advice.
As a registered World Sailing SAILOR member, you’ll also gain access to cruising-specific directories and opportunities.
Call for Award Candidates
Cruising has its own Golden Sail Award category.
Both individuals and organisations are recognised for their dedication to the cruising lifestyle and community.
