On 28 May 1967, Sir Francis Chichester completed his solo voyage around the world aboard Gipsy Moth IV.
This achievement popularised modern sailing, inspired generations of sailors and gave rise to a day that now connects sailing communities everywhere.

The 28th of May each year is the day to promote sailing in all its forms around the world and to honour those who have done so much for it.

Annual Awards
Entries for the World Sailing Day Awards and nominations for the Hall of Fame shall be accepted from 1 December 2025 until 31 March 2026.
The award ceremony will take place in London on May 28, 2026.
